My guess with the starting issue on that particular occasion is that flooding or starved gas. Either way, as it did start, make sure the vacuum line from carb to petcock is secure and find that sweet spot when starting. Maybe full choke on your bike floods, so don’t give it full choke initially. In fact start it with no choke. I’ve had bikes (Nighthawks) that were pretty individual or temperamental when it came to starting. Some took full choke, others, none at all. And next time stick a good amount of Carb cleaner in the gas and give it a good long ride.
