I had a customer who's vcr way fried by a strike. They were always careful to unplug power and signal cables when storms were coming. The lightning decided it was gonna eat the vcr anyway. It struck the lines near the house and exited the power outlet in the wall next to the vcr, went through the vcr on its way to ground.
