Carla will load all the file types supported by linuxsampler - SFZ, GIG, SF2. (Possibly SF2 are done with Fluidsynth, but can also be handled by linuxsampler). Also, it seems to use an older version of linuxsampler which does not support flac files (support around Feb, 2013 - since linuxsampler added flac support I've converted all my SFZ to flac since flac files are 1/3 to 1/2 the size of wav files and load faster). Also Carla seems to use a "private" version of linuxsampler because files samples in Carla are not seen by qsampler or fanstasia.
