I asked my youth chaplain friend, Steve Davies what he thought of Zele. Included in the response was the following:
"As far as the youngsters go, Scott Malone may be pushing for at least a reserve slot at left back, and I'd love Danny Batth to make it (would love them all to!) But probably the next mover should be Ethan at centre-back... As for Zele: he's obviously good, not least when he's standing out as a 15 year old (he still could be U16s this year). He may well become very good...but I wouldn't saddle him with ludicrous comparisons (the "Best was good enough as an 8 year old" type comments...)" I don't really know enough about the fringe players or what transfers might be available to comment meaningfully. .however I am quietly confident that we could be having a very similar conversation next year about Premier League viability. I can't see us buying any more for midfield at the moment after the recent purchases of Milijas, Surman and Halford. 38 games at an average of 1.25 points per game equals around 47 points. More than happy with this for our first season back in the top flight. _____ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Marcus Chantry Sent: Tuesday, 14 July 2009 2:56 PM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Predictions Alright, the start of the new season is only 4 weeks away so it's time we started thinking about predictions and the tipping comp. First question - Is there going to be a tipping comp this year and if so in what format and who is offering to run it? Second question - for those of us that saw the team training and the Perth Glory match over in Perth, what are your thoughts on the team, the depth of the squad, strong/weak links in the team, likely finishing position etc, etc. I think we have got loads of enthusiasm in the team with all the young lads raring to go and I think we have enough depth in most of the positions. Whilst Iwelumo was never going to be a starter in the first team, he did offer some height/strength and experience from the bench. I think Vokes can make the step up but I would like to see us try and get a target man on loan for a few months just in case. The other area I think we need to improve is the centre of defence. Whilst Bobo Balde looked commanding in the air, I'm not convinced he's got the pace to keep up with premiership strikers, so even if we sign him I reckon he's back up at best. Ideally I'd like to see us get someone with pace & experience but maybe getting Mancienne on loan would be a good option and hope that his speed/talent/potential will make up for his lack of regular experience at Premiership level. Finally, I reckon Thick Mick is a decent bloke on a personal level particularly as he took time out to come to my hotel on Saturday morning to receive a NSWolves shirt, but I'll still reserve judgement on his tactical abilities until we start coming up against decent opposition.
