Another thought?

Is this 3com NIC connected to a Cisco switch. I heard somebody mentioning
setting portfast option on the switch. This could cause that message also.

" A couple of MS KB's mention the problem may be in an ethernet switch.
That the Spanning Tree Algorithm should be disable.  Then another KB says
that the spanning tree portfast setting SHOULD be enabled (which it is).  We
have Cisco switch."

I have changed drivers, cables, and nics (same type of nic, just new
one)

This machine has a 3Com EtherLink 10/100 PCI (3C905C-TX) installed in
it.  Using the driver from 3Com version 4.31.0.0 dated 8-13-2002.
