Is the switch a 3Com Superstack? Have experienced problems between 3Coms
NICS and the superstack switch. But that was mainly with the gigabit
cards. Worth a try though.

The PC is only 52 ft. from the switch.

It was not causing any problems as a Win 98 machine.

I've also upgraded to SP3 for Win2k.

Have you tried moving the PC closer to the DHCP server? I have seen this
being caused by attenuation.

Give it a shot.
