That makes more sense - there is a problem I've found w/ the syslog() functions on RH prior to 9 (that is pthreads vs. NPTL). It mostly bites during startup (esp. w/ -t 4) - that's when multiple threads are logging stuff simultaneously and frequently. Once ntop is running, there shouldn't be a large risk, but RH9 is a better choice than 7.x or 8.0.
