They're not idiots, but they don't know how to express exactly what they want or need until they either get it in laymen's terms or shown to them.

They won't know. I deployed dual monitors to all my employees way back, and many didn't even understand why, some didn't want it. 2 weeks later I asked them how it was working out, and they ALL agreed that they didn't know how they ever got by without one. (In our business - dual monitors is a must). It's actually made employees not want to work from home anymore because they can't function with one monitor. Many now have 2 monitors at home.
