We give a prospective employee the following directions: "Login to a computer
using the following username and password, open Google.com and print from this
printer."

We setup a computer for them with a few things not quite right... First, we'll
plug the computer into a power strip with the switch off. Second, we loosen one
of the plugs (such as the keyboard, network, or monitor power) so that it looks
plugged in, but it's not. Third, we make sure the browser is not on the
desktop, so they have to go through the menus to launch a browser. (Notice we
are not specific on which browser, or even to use a browser.) Last, we make
sure the default printer is not set correctly.

As the user attempts these steps, they are free to ask questions. It's not a
pass/fail, it's just for us to figure out how the prospective employee thinks.
Do they ask for help? Do they try and troubleshoot? Do they give up? Do they do
something we didn't expect?
