I realize this is more than a bit OT, and I do have a tech support case opened with HP. However, they say I have no software support for VMware (which is true, but VMware is not what I am having problems with; I am having problems with HP software for VMware). And the support they have given me so far ... makes me very leery and worried that they know what they are talking about ...
Anyway, I thought I'd ask, in case some forum member has had the same happen. I am trying to install the latest HP Management Agent 8.7.0 on my VMware ESX 4.1.U1 server (a Proliant DL580 G7). It's delivered as a .tgz file, which you untar and run, while in maintenance mode. Fine so far, but the install fails. The first part of the process uninstalls any older versions. Since I have been running 8.6.0, it attempts to uninstall that, and fails. The log (which HP has yet to ask me to read to them, or even check ..) says: Uninstalling HP Insight Manager Agents bulletin [hp-classic-mgmt-solution-860.11.0508] ... Removing [hp-classic-mgmt-solution-860.11.0508] ... Encountered error NoMatchError: The error data is: Id - hp-classic-mgmt-solution-860.11.0508 Message - 1 of 6 VIBs in bulletin hp-classic-mgmt-solution-860.11.0508 have been superseded. I do all that, and try re-installing. Which, of course, fails as above, since (to me) there's a bug in the installer ... meanwhile, of course, now I have no SNMP monitoring at all, and HP couldn't tell me how to re-install SNMP. (which I find frightening ...) Anyway ... anybody updated HP Management Agents from 8.6.0 to 8.7.0 on ESX 4.1 successfully? ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
