I realize this is more than a bit OT, and I do have a tech support case
opened with HP. However, they say I have no software support for VMware
(which is true, but VMware is not what I am having problems with; I am
having problems with HP software for VMware). And the support they have
given me so far ... makes me very leery and worried that they know what
they are talking about ...

Anyway, I thought I'd ask, in case some forum member has had the same
happen. I am trying to install the latest HP Management Agent 8.7.0 on
my VMware ESX 4.1.U1 server (a Proliant DL580 G7). It's delivered as a
.tgz file, which you untar and run, while in maintenance mode. Fine so
far, but the install fails.

The first part of the process uninstalls any older versions. Since I
have been running 8.6.0, it attempts to uninstall that, and fails. The
log (which HP has yet to ask me to read to them, or even check ..) says:

HP's attempts at solutions was to uninstall the whole HP Management
Agents (which entails uninstalling SNMP, Health Monitoring, and other
things that are inter-dependent with the Management Agents). I do all
that, and try re-installing. Which, of course, fails as above, since (to
me) there's a bug in the installer ... meanwhile, of course, now I have
no SNMP monitoring at all, and HP couldn't tell me how to re-install
SNMP. (which I find frightening ...)

Anyway ... anybody updated HP Management Agents from 8.6.0 to 8.7.0 on
ESX 4.1 successfully?
