Right.  That did it.  Unfortunately the trunk has exactly same problem
as 2.2.2, it is truncating the returned string at the 15th byte, which
is an 0D hex.  On the plus side, the debugging info is a little better
out of the box, I didn't have to put in any of my own debug printf's.
