Greetings! This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 
July 16 , 2012

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     7/21: A good variety of shorebirds were found at Knox-Marcellus and 
Puddler’s Marsh. Viewing from East Road and Towpath Road the following species 
were reported. GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, STILT SANDPIPER, SHORT-BILLED 
DOWITCHER, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, KILLDEER, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER, SEMI-PALMATED 
SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER and SPOTTED SANDPIPER. At 
VanDyne Spoor Road LEAST BITTERN and BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON were found.


Oswego County
------------

     7/17: Two UPLAND SANDPIPERS are still being seen at the Oswego County 
Airport from Howard Road.


Cayuga County
------------

     7/22: 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS were seen at Fairhaven State Park behind the east 
channel breakwall.


Onondaga County
------------

     7/23: The ACADIAN FLYCATCHER is still present at Whiskey Hollow.


Jefferson County
------------

     7/22: A BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK was found yesterday near Clayton. No 
report today yet. Directions to the sighting are as follows:
     There's a report of a Black-bellied Whistling Duck in Jefferson County at 
Northern Marine near Clayton. Directions given to me are to take  12E east out 
of Clayton, turn left on May Irwin Drive and then left on Stearns Drive, the 
duck is at the end of the road and is with mallards. Good luck if you go!
