This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of January 20, 2020 Highlights: ----------- HARLEQUIN DUCK GLAUCOUS GULL ICELAND GULL LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL BLACK-HEADED GULL SNOWY OWL SHORT-EARED OWL RED-HEADED WOODPECKER RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET COMMON GRACKLE RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD DICKCISSEL LAPLAND LONGSPUR SAVANNAH SPARROW FIELD SPARROW LARK SPARROW EASTERN TOWHEE Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 1/22: A SAVANNAH SPARROW was seen along East Road. Onondaga county ------------ CHIPPING SPARROWS were again found in Manlius and this week in Baldwinsville. 1/20: A BLACK-HEADED GULL ,initially found on 1/19, has been seen through the week in various locations on the Seneca river in Baldwinsville. It was last seen at about 1:00 p.m. on 1/24. Later that day at 4:00 a (the) bird was seen at Liverpool Marina on Onondaga Lake. There have been no recent sightings. The female DICKSISSEL found on 1/20 has continues through the week on Limeledge Road in Marcellus. Seen yesterday but no report yet today. A RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD was seen at a feeder in Elbridge. 1/21: An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen at a feeder on Windy Hill Road in Pompey Center. 1/23: A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen on Sheets Road south of Baldwinsville. A RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was seen at Three Rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville. 1/24: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen on the ice on the Seneca River in Baldwinsville. 1/25: An ICELAND GULL was seen at the Inner Harbor in Syracuse. 1/26: A COMMON GRACKLE was seen on Peppermill Lane in North Syracuse. A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at the Liverpool Marina on Onondaga Lake. Oswego County ------------ The LARK SPARROW is present today on Hinman Road north of Pulaski. this is now day 21 for this bird. Awsome!!! 1/22: A FIELD SPARROW continues at a feeder in Constantia. An adult male HARLEQUIN DUCK is again being seen from Fort Ontario Park in Oswego and was still present yesterday. 1/23: BLACK SCOTER, SURF SCOTER, GREEN-WING TEAL and CACKLING GOOSE were all reported from Oswego Harbor. 1/24: A RED-THROATED LOON was seen from Fort Ontario Park in Oswego. A WOOD DUCK was seen on Lake Ontario in Port Ontario. It was relocated on 1/26. Cayuga County ---------------- 1/20: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was again seen on Pond Shore Drive in Fair Have State Park and has continued through 1/26. A CACKLING GOOSE was seen at West Barrier Bar Park in Fair Haven. 1/22: A SNOWY OWL was seen at West Barrier Bar Park in Fair haven. A CACKLING GOOSE, a GLAUCOUS GULL and a SURF SCOTER were all seen in Little Sodus Bay in Fair Haven. Oneida County ------------ 1/20: An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen on Cider Street in Oriskiney.
