This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of February 10, 2020 Highlights: ----------- RED-THROATED LOON CACKLING GOOSE WOOD DUCK NORTHERN SHOVELER AMERICAN WIGEON HARLEQUIN DUCK BARROW’S GOLDENEYE RUDDY DUCK BLACK SCOTER LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL GLAUCOUS GULL ICELAND GULL SNOWY OWL RED-HEADED WOODPECKER DICKCISSEL FIELD SPARROW CHIPPING SPARROW WHITE CROWNED SPARROW LARK SPARROW DICKCISSEL LAPLAND LONGSPUR COMMON REDPOLL Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ No reports this week. Onondaga County ------------ 2/10: An AMERICAN WIGEON was seen at the mouth of Nine Mile Creek on Onondaga Lake. 2/11: A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was spotted at Pratt”s Falls County park. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen on No. 9 Road south of Manlius. 2.12: The female DICKCISSEL found earlier in January on Limeledge Road in Marcellus made another appearance but has not been reported since. An ICELAND GULL, 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS and 2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were all seen at the Liverpool Marina on Onondaga Lake. 2/14: The adult male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was again seen on the Oswego River in Phoenix on the onondaga County side. 2/15: A WOOD DUCK was seen on the Oswego River from Radisson. 2 ICELAND GULLS and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were seen at the Inner Harbor near Destiny Shopping Center in Syracuse. 2 SNOWY OWLS were seen at Hancock Airport in Syracuse. 2/16: 2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS and 2 CACKLING GEESE were seen from the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake. A RUDDY DUCK continues at the Inner Harbor. Oswego County ------------ The LARK SPARROW made it to day 41 yesterday on Hinman Road north of Pulaski. A FIELD SPARROW continues to overwinter at a feeder in Constantia. 2/11: A RED-THROATED LOON was seen in Oswego Harbor. 2/11: A BLACK SCOTER was again seen in Oswego Harbor and continued to 2/16. A male HARLEQUIN DUCK was again seen in Oswego Harbor and continued to 2/16. The adult male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was again found in the oswego River in Phoenix and was seen through 2/15. 2/14: A BLACK SCOTER, an ICELAND GULL and a GLAUCOUS GULL were all found in Oswego Harbor. A female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was spotted from Fort Ontario in Oswego and was seen through the 16th. A COMMON REDPOLL was reported on Hoyt Road in Pennelville. 2/16: An ICELAND GULL was seen near Lock 6 on the Oswego River in Oswego. Cayuga County ------------ 2/13: A male TUFTED DUCK was found in Little Sodus Bay in Fair Haven and has continued to be seen through the 16th. 2/15: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at the lower camp sites in Fair Haven State Park. Madison County ------------ 2/16: 5 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen on Pleasant Valley Road south of Peterboro.
