Dell IS much cheaper and configurable than Apple.

The article is trying to distort this fact by adding some software
packages and tweaking the configuration. For example from the article:

"I also added the $99 optional bundle of Adobe Photoshop Elements and
Premiere Elements to the Dell laptop. The MacBook ships with Apple's
iPhoto and iMovie applications, part of its iLife suite, at no extra
cost. "

Why the heck???

You can not expect fair price comparison from custom configured
system. Because how and where (and when) you buy your extra hardware
matters and this is where the comparison becomes distorted.

Another one:

"When I upgraded the hard drive in both computers to 250GB, the Dell
laptop cost $1358 and the MacBook, $1399, tipping the balance slightly
in Dell's favor. Also, Dell offers more configuration options than
does Apple."

That is so cleverly put together to lead people to the conclusion that
Mac is only more expensive than Dell, "by a hair". Why just upgraded
the hard drive? Why not upgrade the RAM as well? How bout buying spare
battery?

A much better price comparison would be to first define the
requirements of buying the laptop and then find the cheapest that
satisfied that requirements.
