In general, OAuth should "dissappear" into libraries just like basic auth; it's what I aimed for with my PHP HTTP_Request_OAuth class that adds a small amount OAuth to the existing PEAR HTTP_Request package. The idea of an authentication standard colonizing the HTTP libraries of various languages seems to me like a potential impediment to adoption.
