I completely agree with Ben on this. Up until now I didn't even realize
that there was a private list for the board. I still don't get why the
board needs to communicate in private to 3rd parties. Using the
examples from Garrett, if CERT or other vendors want to talk to someone
about Solaris in private then it seems it would make more sense to talk
to Sun in private. The board doesn't speak for Solaris anyway just the
OpenSolaris community. Everything should be open in the community so
they can see for themselves. But what is really disturbing is when the
board "needs" to talk to Sun in private. Although I completely trust
all of the members of the board and Sun in regards to doing the right
thing this just doesn't look good for a community that is supposed to be
all about openness. I can see where people could get the impression
that the board is just a shill for Sun by using their imaginations of
what goes on in those private conversations. Personally, the private
list doesn't bother me but I am just concerned about keeping up the
OGB's reputation.

I'll reiterate, this is OPENsolaris, and OPEN is the key.
