Of those, I think the third option is probably the best one, much like this existing project: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/intel-platform/ I agree that the first option gives you a disjoint set of projects and likely poor coordination. My concern with the second option is that this seems too narrow to be a community. A better community for this area would be a "platform support" community. We've discussed this a few times in the past -- particularly with the PPC work -- and now may be the best time to do this. Such a community would sponsor projects in the AMD, Intel, SPARC, and PPC areas, among other places, and would share information about platform-related issues.
