Ryan-

Thanks for the clarification. It is nice to hear an
official interpretation of this rather than our
speculation.

How about some examples:

Lets say I make a module using monsters and items from
the d20 SRD. I want to keep my original text closed
(just the story). So I mark all the monsters and items
(even a few new ones I create) with a gray background
and indicate that all gray background material is open
pursuant to the identification section of the license.
I dont add any new rules or classes, etc.

My question is: Can WotC or anyone else republish my
closed text without my permission? I understand what
the law provides--what I want to know is what is the
intent of WotC under this license? The law gives me
certain rights, but this license may remove them. That
is what we are all trying to figure out.

I would like to hear an answer such as: "WotC will not
take closed material and republish it and it is not
our intent to allow others to do it either."

I am not talking about rules or monsters or items.
That stuff, derived from the d20 SRD, should be open.
I am only referring to the original text--the "plot"
if you will.

I dont want someone taking my story and turning the
plot from it into the next Baldur's Gate with me
getting nothing. It is little confort that since that
person would be using open content that his or her
product should be open too. I dont have the resources
to sue Bioware.

I dont want to close things up. But I want to know
that my original text will remain protected, and will
not have the protection waived, under the license.

If that isnt the case, I think we would like to know.

Please give some examples of what you intend and how
this license will work in a practical situation. Take
the module I described above: what do you see as
protected under the license and what do you see others
being able to do with it?

Clark
