WotC is great. I don't think anyone is disputing that, but the OGL (as it
stands) isn't great. I wish like hell that it was, but it isn't, IMO. It's
not ready for the gaming community, again IMO.

It serves both WotC and all potential OGL participants for the OGL to be as
close to the spirit of the Open Gaming Movement as possible. I think the
best way to do that is for the OGL to be independent of a single gaming
entity but also serve to protect the interests of _all_ involved.

It was discouraging to find out that there are other "OGLs" and that I could
simply ignore this one if I didn't like it. But I _want_ to like it. I want
to be part of the OGL that WotC is a part of because _they_ are the gaming
company that I respect and honestly... they are the only ones that have the
power to make an OGL viable throughout the entire gaming industry.

My point is that, with all due respect, the OGL should be written by the
gaming community, for the gaming comunity and then looked over by/led
by/approved by WotC (and maybe even other corporate entities). This is one
of those few instances where "business" and "altruistic forward thinking" can
go hand in hand... but I think we just have to try harder. If there even is
a "we."

I'm not ready to accept that the OGL is just a WotC marketing tool. Is it?
If it is, I will respect that, but then that means somewhere along the way a
lot of people got confused and maybe hoped for something "bigger".

Regards,
Maggie
