Without "leeches" like me (and the other folks that meet your description but
don't have the fun I do calling myself a "leech"), the OGF will *FAIL*.

WotC will not be throwing money out to d20 developers to encourage them to
create stuff like some bloated government arts program. These products will
need to make money, and will do so with varying degrees of OGC.

Profit will drive the d20 products through the market. If they are good, they
will sell. If they suck and/or are somehow disingenuous, they will fail.
Simple as that.

Without profit, the d20 process will devolve into two very small groups --
starry-eyed developers with visions of somehow "giving back" to the community
and at the same time being unable to produce any real volume of material
since it doesn't really pay for its time and illiterate yahoos who wish to
publish their campaign notes to share with all creation.

Profit is a great motivator. Please realize that if Ryan didn't believe
somewhere deep down that doing this would increase the profitability of
WotC/Hasbro and at the same time could convince the "powers-that-be" at
Hasbro the same, he wouldn't have done it or gotten this far.
