I do think that a "leech" title placed on a publisher who keeps his content
out of the public domain is a bit extreme, even if the reasoning for that is
profit motivated.

I'll bet though, if I know anything about this industry, that the primary
motivation is that the author wants the right to dictate what happens to his
characters.

I wonder what the balance between those two is?
