Please. I didn't say it couldn't. I merely said that if you're going to be
publishing some sort of commercial product that I feel it would be
appropriate. As nobody can add or remove portions of the OGL itself this
obviously can't be demanded, and by the spirit of the OGL shouldn't be.

I did say "compensate", I didn't say "Pay him two times standard industry
rates, and do it prior to publication". A copy of the book would be
perfectly appropriate - I'm suggesting it as a perk, like a comp copy given
to a playtester or a contributor to any other book. Not only is this a
"nice thing" that cuts less into the bottom line of a small game company
than shelling out per word (Unless the content used is extremely small),
but it builds good faith between the company and the writer and may help to
get them together on future projects, or at least expose the writer and
potential consumer to your product which he may not have seen otherwise.
