Not necessarily - it could easily be enabled with a compile time
setting, just like a lot of our other image reading plugins which
require heavy library dependencies.  If desired, such a compile time
option could also be separate from the use of Qt in iv.

+1 from me for this idea which sounds useful IMHO.
