What *version* of Java7?... that is the key.... remember when Java7
shipped there was a nasty bug** that caused segfaults on the VM under
very precise circumstances. Then it was fixed by the time of the Java
7 Update 2 release. And now Java 7 is up to version J7u5 (Java 7
Update 5).

So, when you say "Java 7" what build of Java 7 do you mean? it' s
quite possible that those reports about java extensions crashing under
"Java 7" were actually a result of the nasty J7 "GA" vm with its nasty
VM JIT optimization bug, and quite irrelevant and solved by now by
users who install J7u5...

FWIW the download URLs are:

J7u5 32bit (win32)
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=65692

J7u5 64-bit*
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=65693

(neither redirector requires an annoying log-in or clicking for
accepting of Oracle TOS,
as is required when downloading from the Oracle.com page)

Just my $0.02...
