/bin/bash is compatible. our shell scripts (with #!/bin/sh at top) from solaris 
worked out of the box on linux dev. machines. Please mention the parts which 
are not backward compatible, and you will have it fixed sooner than you would 
make /bin/sh POSIX compliant. People have put in lot of effort there.
