I doubt the majority of people would object to have more code offered to them 
for free after Sun has paid a significant amount of money/time/resources 
developing it.  It's like christmas all over again!

As for developing in house, It's just the logistics of getting it done with 
quality and quickly, at least for the initial stages of the project, then it 
goes open source and everyone can contribute to it.  Most open source projects 
are developed by an individual or a small team in the formative stages until 
something is up and running.

However, if there's a senior software developer in the open source community 
that's familiar with this area of code who's willing to  volunteer 40+ hours a 
week to add to our team, maintain our quality, and speed us up instead of 
slowing us down, please submit a resume and I can forward it to management for 
them to assess the impact of another team member. :)
