One of the topics we should review is the SFW releases. The simple thing behind this is to review the current sources within the current SFW_b38 versus the latest stable releases available on the Net.
This is one of the issues that causes other package maintainers to use their own libs. This will happen anyway, but more on the fact of having updated libs more than just rebuilds from the same source code. So look at SFW and the Companion CD and see how it can be updated to have the latest apps/libs for developers/admins to use and build more software. Doesn't matter why Blastwave.org does what it does.
