Hi all, This is a weird one: burning CDs and DVDs in my Ultra 20 is a crapshoot. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. The Ultra 20 is using the DVD-RW drive that Sun shipped with it, and I'm using the latest BIOS and b42a of Nevada. The media I'm trying to burn is brand new Maxell branded DVD-Rs and CD-Rs, and they all seem to be in excellent physical condition.
So the question is: is this a known problem, and are there any workarounds? I'm using cdrw (no offense to Joerg, but I find "cdrw -i foo.iso" much easier to type than cdrecord with a long list of options), and as I say this is an intermittent problem. Here are the results from two successive attempts: [EMAIL PROTECTED] time cdrw -i sol-10-u2-ga-x86-dvd.iso Looking for CD devices... Initializing device...done. Preparing to write DVD Writing track 1...done. Finalizing (Can take several minutes)...done. real 7m18.80s user 0m0.41s sys 0m7.63s [EMAIL PROTECTED] time cdrw -i sol-10-u2-ga-x86-dvd.iso Looking for CD devices... Initializing device...done. Finalizing (Can take several minutes)...done. real 25m51.51s user 0m0.00s sys 0m0.05s Intersting how the failed attempt took about 18 minutes longer (most of which was in the finalizing stage)... As you can see, the first attempt was successful, but the second (after changing the disk in the drive!) failed. The machine was otherwise quite during both attempts. (Incidentally, I've burned numerous disks using cdrw with my Ferrari 3400, without any issues. I wonder if this is HW related?)
