Huh? What caveats may I ask? Whether apt+deb or
yum+rpm, both handle this in a most trivial manner.
You point apt or yum at the main repository and your
own repository that has your customized packages.
Setting up your own repository is simple too so the
whole thing is quick and easy to setup.
