Ok, on a machine running a database server (and nothing else),
that might make sense.

On a general purpose box it doesn't make much sense;
I'd have to reboot the box in various ARC configurations
depending on the workload / memory requirements.

I'm my case (with running a single big memory
hungy process and the ARC cache filled with lots
of cached data)  it's a simple zpool on one 
100GB ATA HDD.
