I don't have a sighted person around right off that can read for me; I'll have to see when I can get Jeannie or Bry here to do that. But here's what happened to start things going downhill.
I was looking at some CDs so I could see what they were and identify them. Everything was going along fine until I put a CD in which failed to read. Doing "ls /mnt/cdrom" merely produced "/mnt/cdrom" for its results. The emacspeak cd eject command produced no results, and pushing the button on the CD-rom drive was ineffective as well. However, as soon as I rebooted the system, I had control of my drive again, and was able to eject the CD. Since then, the CD drive has worked flawlessly, but I have had *no* sound. I've tried different speakers, to no avail.
