I haven't tried this, so who knows what might break, but you could write a
stub servlet that you set to load on startup and have the init method do
the uid switch. I agree with you though, having Orion service requests
running as root is not at all acceptable.

you mean on a port below 1024? that's not possible AFAIK unless you use a
native library for the SUID stuff as is done in Jetty (or at least there
exists a hack for Jetty). The orion gus have not announced if they are
going to support something like this for the unix customers (which is
extremely important for production work IMHO). if you find any other way,
please let me know.
