Well, we're probably getting into semantics here. Originally you said

What you seem to be saying here is that the Flash IDE is the primary  
tool used in creating timeline animations.

A subtle change in wording, but very different meaning. The first  
implies that most people just use Flash to create tweens. But for many  
people it is their primary application development tool.

None, because the FLA format is not open. This will start to change in  
Flash CS4 with XFL.

I don't think you'll be able to make MXML components that will work in  
Flash IDE. I could be wrong, but currently you can't compile MXML in  
flash. People already are making AS3 components that work in Flash.  
Not sure what you mean by "return to its roots". I would consider  
Flash's "roots" as being timeline animation. :)

I don't think Thermo is going to have much direct impact on Flash.  
Thermo will be a Flex-based tool for making layouts, skins and styles  
for Flex apps (MXML). Bordeaux is going to affect the Flash IDE perhaps.
