So this also means that the smoothing visitor doesn't handle holes and such
eges properly?
I seem to recall I had some of the same problems earlier when the edges
between a set of triangles got too large.

Hi Werner,

I'm afraid osgUtil::SmoothingVisitor is a black box, there isn't
anything you do to tweak the way it works.   You could possible try to
tweak the source code to SmoothingVisitor yourself, or just go and
write your own normal computation algorithm.
