Lucas-- That was not a criticism of the book's long sentences, which are sometimes complex, always clear. It was an observation about my own reading--I had to pay attention to how I read, so I took in the sense of the whole sentence.
To tell the truth, when it comes to reading aloud, I have read far more children's books aloud than adult books--I was the oldest in a family of five children, and had four sons of my own. But I love complexity, too!
