To some extent, yes.  But society has ALWAYS classified some crimes as  
more serious, even if the underlying crime is the same.  Rape is a  
crime, rape of a child is a much more serious crime, for example. Rape  
of a child from a person in a position of trust is an even MORE  
serious crime.
