For Alysa
I am an OT with arthritic knees and found pilates incredibly helpful but wouldn’t even try to do yoga. A class is essential to learn pilates – it is a very subtle form of exercise and a teacher is required to check positioning is correct. In comparison with tai chi, which I have done in the past, I would say that pilates is a different approach. It is important that each individual finds a way of exercising that suits them best, and I’m sure any good teacher would welcome someone coming along on a one-off basis. The only group of people I’ve known to use videos consistently over any length of time are those with eating disorders who compulsively exercise!

Hello: I work in the SNFs and have had a few clients
ask my advice on yoga and pliate videos as home exercise programs. Can anyone
suggest a good video for clients with cardiac and/or arthritis? I am a
little leary of the idea, and have suggested tai chi as an alternate.
However, I know that one client in particular does do a yoga video 3-5 times a
week despite my suggestion.
