I had the impression the system hangs *because* of the reboot. If it's a
coldplug issue (yes, such errors exists), removing the USB modules would
help, as it would help to *hot*plug the device.

Usually USB is powered through reboot to allow a connected keyboard to
boot the machine, e.g. when it's in deep sleep. There may be a BIOS
option or jumper to turn this off.
