Thanks again, sorry for not stating the problem clearly. The problem arose (probably) at a brief power failure, i.e. an abrupt shutdown followed by restart once power returned. (syslog shows the pc restarting just after data capture stopped)
Under normal conditions, with owserver running and functioning, it comes up nicely after a normal reboot. No problems.
