Hello,

I think a parallel upload would be very useful. Also if you have multiple sync
folders defined (as I do) and a small change propagation in one folder pair is
delayed for long time because of some heavy changes propagation in the other
folder pair.

However I think that your current problems with how slow it is to upload files
stem probably from the server being very inefficient in handling these uploads.
For example a number of php calls involved in handling one webdav request or
the number of DB queries alike is very high (insanely high to be more precise).

There are several open issues on that in github (for example
https://github.com/owncloud/core/issues/5084) and from what I understand
owncloud server team are working to address these in priority. So hopeful some
time soon things should become much more efficient.

I must disagree with you on that. Given my scenario, 464kb file takes 7 seconds
to upload and to finish sync journal entry. 10MB block of file greater than
10MB takes 3 seconds for that. So given I have enough bandwidth I believe I
would profit using concurrent uploads. I have 350k files to upload, and 10 days
later I managed to get 30% uploaded ;) And I repeat link speed is guaranteed
gigabit.

Well if you upload one file with 1MB/s or 2 with 500KB/s does not make a
difference. Files aren't faster uploaded. Quite the contrary, 2 uploads
generate double the overhead, hence make the data transfer slower. And
in sequential upload you can work with the first file while the second
is uploading.

What about concurrent uploads? Nobody seems to care? :)

Hi Laurens,

this problem of the incorrect progress was probably fixed today, but
unfortunately missed beta3.

I'm trying likewise situations, uploading wedding photographs
including raw material, running in tens of gigabytes.
Thing is, the progress of uploading isn't showing any information
(just sticks to 0 and then suddenly has uploaded it). In previous
versions, I've seen a progress bar running. Showing the upload speed
would also help in giving a feeling if the connection is properly used...

Best,
Laurens

Hi,

I am trying to sync 2TB hdd containing 355765 files, sizes from 86KB
to 20GB. Runing for three days now, I managed to sync 424GB, 41571
file. Link speed and hdd speed is irrelevant since I have 1Gbit to
server I sync :)
My question is, will there be support for parallel downloads/uploads
in sync client for such heavy duty scenario like mine where little
files waste time?

Regards,
Nikola
