Have you tried with 1.5.0beta already? Or can you check the log for us how long it takes to rebuild the database after the file is uploaded? My bet is that 6.5 secs go on that because the database is rebuild from scratch whenever a change happens.
The good news is that 1.5.0 does that completely different. From 1.5 on the sync journal is updated whenever changes happen, not completely rewritten. That will give a completely different feeling.
