Thanks Ken,

So what are the plus sides of not having a back-lit screen? Longer battery
life; lighter; less glare etc ?
Generally speaking are they easier on the eye to read in a well lit room?

|You definitely need external lighting if it's dark. However both devices I
had
|(Sony and Kindle) have a number of zoom options (the kindle has about 6-7
|levels of zoom). E-book formats are design to be re-flowable (like HTML) so
you
|can easily zoom in/out

|Hi Simon, all,
|
|What's the screen like on the kindle? I gather most of these e-readers are
grey
|scale, not colour, and use reflective rather than back-lit?
|I'm getting at that age where I need reading glasses when light is poor (or
print
|too small) so I'm concerned about the need to have an external light on
these
|devices; but I guess they'd still have a lot less glare than any back-lit
device.
|Thoughts/comments ??

||I've found the smaller Kindle near useless for technical books such as
||Wrox/Apress in PDF format but you can easily convert to a more reader
||friendly format using the Mobipocket software:
||http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/default.asp?Language=EN
||<http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/default.asp?Language=EN>
||Also a lot of the new releases are available from Amazon in Kindle
||format
||natively:

||text&qid=1283477369&sr=1-5> Given the shipping times and costs of the
||physical copies I wouldn't go back, being able to do a text search
