Meptid is a brand name for Meptazinol.  It is similar to pethidine and has similar side effects, but has half-life of 3.4 hours for babies, compared with 22.7 hours for pethidine.  Research indicates that it has a less depressive effect on newborns, and fewer side effects on Mothers.  I have some references for you if you are interested.  As I said, it is sometimes used in preference to pethidine in the UK (for these reasons).
