But it only takes one person to crack it and then post the solution.
The more difficult it is, the more proud the cracker will be, and
the more likely to advertise their achievement.
I think we should remember what Aaron has said previously (I think???), that
trying to create and implement "uncrackable" security schemes is
only worth the time if it is intellectually stimulating for the programmer.
This is a fun break, like playing games on your computer. There is an
audience of ready and willing crackers that you can match wits with - sort
of a low stakes chess game. And I can certainly recognize the value of
playing games, and sparring with partners. But it has nothing to do with
increasing your money stream, or improving the overall state of Palm
available software.
IMHO, once it gets to be time to get down to work and advance the programs
(more money, more registered users, more Palm owners, etc. etc.) it means
adding real features, fixing and improving the user interface, and
all that boring stuff. If you spend your effort creating that killer app,
instead of playing games with high school hackers, it will come back to you
many fold over, in terms of sales, appreciative users, respect, and good
karma.
