(I would have sent an e-mail about this instead of a posting, but I can't find an e-mail address.) The pulses are generated by switching (connecting) RTS to RXD when the sensor contacts. So the sensor is expecting power from RTS, it would appear (I am mainly a software guy). Who sells the MAX232EPN and MAX3222CPE? These don't look like either Brando or MarkSpace product ID's. It appears that BlueHills ( http://www.blue-hills-innovations.com/blmstr.htm ) may sell the Visor-powered cable that I need, I am waiting to hear back from them for confirmation.
