Well, what makes that even stranger, then, is that I'm using the most recent version of Perl from ActiveState (5.8.2 build 808). If that doesn't give you access to the most recent version of PPD's, I don't know what should.

I've mentioned this before and I don't know what ppm uses to determine which version of PAR it will offer you. I have ActiveState 5.6.1 and I only see PAR 0.63 in a search. If you get a copy of nmake, you can always get the latest version from par.perl.org and install it manually. And your problem should go away :) Alan Stewart
