Suggest you go to Brian Hartgen's web page-

www.tandt-consultancy.com

and look at his scripts for JAWS, called J-tunes.

To hear podcasts about JAWS and I-tunes, go to Freedom Scientific's web
site-

www.hj.com

and look for their podcast which is called F S cast. The January 2010 or
February 2010 podcast is about Jaws and I-tunes.

There are other podcasts about it that you can find by doing a search in
google using the terms-

hartgen i-tunes

If you have the patience to read a detailed description of i-tunes, largely
written by Anna Dressner of National Braille Press, download the j-tunes
user manual from www.tandt-consultancy.com Whilst it is about using the
Jaws scripts, it does have very detailed descriptions of how i-tunes works
and what you can do with it.

The problem you will have is that you are using Jaws Version 8. I-tunes
will talk for you without the J-tunes scripts but there are parts that you
will find frustrating unless you know what I-tunes is actually doing. That
is why I suggest that you read the J-tunes user manual.

Hope this helps.

Okay, so I'm using Jaws 8 point something at the moment, so iI have no idea
if that will work with the latest version of ITunes. Should I decide to
experiment with it, are there any tricks I s hould know to make using ITunes
any easier? As I said, all I want to do is buy material I can't buy
anywhere else, convert it to mp3, and play it on portable devices that play
standard MP3. Yes, I know there are higher quality files out there, but my
ears don't mind. I really appreciate the help!

Peace,
Kathy

| Hi Kathy.
|
| You can use Itunes as a general music library and player on your PC with
no
| problems at all. If you purchase music from the Itunes store it will be
in
| an Apple proprietary format, usually AAC, and you will need to convert it
to
| MP3 to play on other devices. You can do the conversion in Itunes itself
by
| browsing to the track or number of tracks and choosing convert.
|
| There's a bit of a learning curve to Itunes and you need to have
| compatibility right between your screen reader and the version of Itunes
but
| it's perfectly useable once you get into it.
|
| Regards.
