OK, I'm gonna make one more stab at this, and you ain't gonna like it
I'm afraid. Maybe cutting and pasting, and deleting within a file
crosses over into editing territory, and such options may be
available only in the Pro edition and above. I'll bet you aren't able
to append one file to another either. That unfortunately may end up
being the source of your problem. I certainly hope not, but I don't
think you'll regret making the upgrade.

Just making sure. When you save as, when you tab backwards to see
where the file is being saved, it is being saved on the desktop?
Just for the hell of it, do a search on your hard drive for your
file with Windows find, just in case there is a duplicate. If there
is, that may be the one you have been working on.
I really wish you luck with this one. As I suggested, you might
send an enquiry to the guys at High Criteria and maybe that can
suggest something we haven't thought of. TR sure has been a great
and reliable utility for me for a lot of years, and I hope it will
be for you in the very near future.
Good luck,
Larry

Also try creating a new file from some other recording source,
just to see where it might go when saving. You might save using
the file menu in order to see just where files are being saved
too. Have you tried saving your work through the menus, rather
than just pressing ctrl-s. Try doing that, and tab backward from
the file name just to get an idea where TR is likely to save a file.

Are you absolutely sure that the work is being saved to the
file on the desktop?
Maybe you should copy the file to another folder, then bring
the new copy up from within that new folder with TR, and do it
all over again. Just forget the copy in the desktop. I know, it
really shouldn't make a difference, but I believe it is
possible that TR might be saving your resulting file to a
folder of its own choosing, although I can't say why exactly.
I'm just trying to make sure that you are sure that TR is using
the desktop as a default, because it doesn't usually. If I
remember correctly, I think it saves folders under my
documents\my music, but not sure anymore. I have my files
presently saved to a folder of my own creation called "TR
Downloads." That is where I save my audio streamed recordings at present.
I know that this is a matter of personal preference, but I
really don't like to do such tasks from the desktop anyway,
just for housekeeping purposes, but I have my organizational
eccentricities just like everybody else does <g>.

Again Tom, I hope you aren't mistakenly playing a previous
copy of the original file using Winamp, giving you the
misimpression that TR isn't doing its work. Or maybe I'm
actually hoping that is exactly what you are doing, because
if you are... You might feel a bit foolish for a while after
realizing that you've been making such a mistake, but there's
nothing like making a bit of a fool of yourself to learn such
a lesson <g>. Believe me, no one here will be laughing at you
if this is the case, certainly not me.

the file in Total Recorder and that part (when I come to it)
appears to be gone; the beginning of the file will start to
play! So then I close TR, play my file in Winamp, go to the
end of the file and find that all of the "access: is still
remaining there! I'm fairly sure that I have to be missing
something somewhere along the way; probably something I'm not doing right!

OK Tom, one more point of clarification. If you delete the
selection, save the file, then close TR, then return to TR
and reopen the previously saved file with the selected
material gone, is it really gone? I mean when replaying it
in TR, not with Winamp.
Is there no chance that you aren't mistakenly replaying a
copy of the file in another location when using Winamp from
another folder on your hard drive.
Sorry, I know some of these questions have to be rather
irritating, but until we get this thing figured out, no
stone should go unturned <g>.

Total Recorder, it does exactly as I want it to! But then
when I play the original file, the part I tried to cut out

Tom an easier way to edit files is with a program called
mp3 direct cut.
That one will allow you to mark the beginning and the end
of the portion
you want to cut out. That program is freeware.

Hi Thom
I don't know what controll s is used for.
What I said is
Shift l marks the left boundary and shift r marks the
right boundary
or
the stream.
Once this region is marked there is a special file
save that you get
to
using the alt key.
arow down in through the files menue and you will se
special file save
and after you have named the file keep tabing until
you se different
options for mp3 atc atc.
If you still have gtrouble call me at

Hi Thom
If the file is properly marked with the
shift l for left and shift r for the rithe
boundary, then when you
save the file,
thereis an option called special save that lets
yhyou save that
marked
section.
Don't forget to use the undo after you use this.

Subject: Progress Report On My Total Recorder Problem
Hi list: If you've been following this thread,
you know that I've
been trying to trim off the unwanted parts of a
file! Thanks to
lister Richard Godfrey, we were able to do it;
well, sort of! I
can
get Total Recorder to do what I want to do; now my
problem is:
Total
Recorder _will not_ save my changes! Richard
tells me that, upon
pressing "control-S" you don't get that "save as"
dialog (which I
didn't! But when I then play my original file,
all of the file is
___still_ _there_!" I really don't want to
re-install TR; afraid I
might not get things set back as they are now! Can
anybody advise
on
what may be causing TR to not save my edit?
Tom Kaufman, feeling frustrated and a little
hungry; gonna go have
lunch now!
