1. Close Winamp.
2. Remove the section of audio you want rid of using Total Recorder.
3. Save the file with Control+S, and then exit Total Recorder.
4. Reopen Total Recorder again, and use the File > Open... option to
load your edited file back into TR.
5. Go through the file and ensure that the section you removed has
stayed that way and hasn't reappeared.
6. If the section is still missing, and all is in order, exit Total
Recorder again.
7. If the section is still there, edit it out again and explicitly save
the file using either the File > Save or File > Save As... option.
8. Navigate to the file on your desktop or wherever it is saved and open
it up in Winamp.
9. Once again, navigate through the file and see if Winamp plays back
the section of audio that Total Recorder does not.
10. If Winamp still plays back the audio that you deleted, then there is
something wrong with the way you're editing/saving the file in Total
Recorder. I'm not sure what method you could be using that would cause
only Total Recorder to honour deleted segments - send a detailed message
to the list describing what key commands you're using to remove the
section of audio if the file still does not playback correctly in Winamp.

Again Tom, I hope you aren't mistakenly playing a previous copy of
the original file using Winamp, giving you the misimpression that TR
isn't doing its work. Or maybe I'm actually hoping that is exactly
what you are doing, because if you are... You might feel a bit
foolish for a while after realizing that you've been making such a
mistake, but there's nothing like making a bit of a fool of yourself
to learn such a lesson <g>. Believe me, no one here will be laughing
at you if this is the case, certainly not me.

then hit "Delete" then "control-S" (which someone told me really
didn't think that did anything) I then play the file in Total

beginning of the file will start to play! So then I close TR, play
my file in Winamp, go to the end of the file and find that all of
the "access: is still remaining there! I'm fairly sure that I have
to be missing something somewhere along the way; probably something
I'm not doing right!

OK Tom, one more point of clarification. If you delete the
selection, save the file, then close TR, then return to TR and
reopen the previously saved file with the selected material gone,
is it really gone? I mean when replaying it in TR, not with Winamp.
Is there no chance that you aren't mistakenly replaying a copy of
the file in another location when using Winamp from another folder
on your hard drive.
Sorry, I know some of these questions have to be rather irritating,
but until we get this thing figured out, no stone should go
unturned <g>.

Hello DJC and list: Yes; this might be the way to go, but as I

not happening! The really weird thing is: in "Total Recorder"
when I do the steps necessary to accomplish this, if if I play the
file in Total Recorder, it does exactly as I want it to! But then
when I play the original file, the part I tried to cut out is
still very much alive and well! Go figure!

Tom an easier way to edit files is with a program called mp3
direct cut.
That one will allow you to mark the beginning and the end of the
portion
you want to cut out. That program is freeware.

hi thom, just call me, what I'm telling you works for me every
time.
If the markers are in place the save selection as option is
what you
want.
just give it a name , tell it where you want to put it and your
done.

Hello Ken and list: No soap! Either I'm misunderstanding, or
this
just
doesn't work! I did as you explained; all I get is (when
going to that
"special file" thing) is the option to repair the file! I
didn't think
that was what I wanted, but tried it anyway! Result: I
_still_ have
the
part of the file I don't want! Maybe I misunderstood something?

Hi Thom
I don't know what controll s is used for.
What I said is
Shift l marks the left boundary and shift r marks the right
boundary
or
the stream.
Once this region is marked there is a special file save that
you get
to
using the alt key.
arow down in through the files menue and you will se special
file save
and after you have named the file keep tabing until you se
different
options for mp3 atc atc.

Hi Thom
If the file is properly marked with the
shift l for left and shift r for the rithe boundary, then
when you
save the file,
thereis an option called special save that lets yhyou save
that
marked
section.
Don't forget to use the undo after you use this.

Subject: Progress Report On My Total Recorder Problem
Hi list: If you've been following this thread, you know
that I've
been trying to trim off the unwanted parts of a file!
Thanks to
lister Richard Godfrey, we were able to do it; well, sort
of! I
can
get Total Recorder to do what I want to do; now my problem
is:
Total
Recorder _will not_ save my changes! Richard tells me
that, upon
pressing "control-S" you don't get that "save as" dialog
(which I
didn't! But when I then play my original file, all of the
file is
___still_ _there_!" I really don't want to re-install TR;
afraid I
might not get things set back as they are now! Can anybody
advise
on
what may be causing TR to not save my edit?
Tom Kaufman, feeling frustrated and a little hungry; gonna
go have
lunch now!
